In mid-2014, and with the addition of guitarist Georgia Fell, Once Were Wild set out to write and record their debut EP ‘Dreamfield'. Putting together a Pozible crowdfunding campaign to help raise the remaining funds necessary to produce the record, the band received an astonishing amount of support which allowed them to meet their target within just 3 days. In the months following the successful campaign, the band headed into The Aviary recording studio in Abbotsford where they marked the beginning of Summer, recording and producing Dreamfield with head engineering and studio owner Fraser Montgomery.
Riding high from the launch of Dreamfield in late February, which saw them pack out Melbourne’s Bendigo Hotel and perform one of their most energetic shows to date, Once Were Wild plan to follow up their release with a strong emphasis on establishing themselves further within the live music scene.
Having already taken to the stage at some of Melbourne's most iconic live music venues including The Corner Hotel, The Espy, Ding Dong lounge and The Workers Club, the band have a number of exciting shows coming up for 2015, as well as plans to tour Victoria’s coastal regions over the Summer.
Once Were Wild are a 5 piece dream rock band from Melbourne, consisting of Alana Porter on vocals, Georgia Fell on guitar, John McKernan on bass, Renee Morgan on drums and Andrew Whittle on keys/synth. Their distinct ambient sound encompasses dream-like indie rock, combined with captivating melodies and progressive riffs.
Following their formation in late 2013, the band released their debut single ‘Reverie' as a free download after a recording session spent at Melbourne's Sing Sing studios with producer Kalju Tonuma. They've received great support from Australian community radio stations with Reverie gaining air play on a number of radio programs, as well as on triple J's Unearthed digital radio. Their most recent single 'Wanderlust' has also been well received by national radio, having recently been added to Triple M's Homegrown playlist.
“Occasionally an album or a single arrives, that just has that certain edge; I recently received a promo single from a young indie band and thought, having read their accompanying PR outline, that they would find it hard to live up to such brave words. Having only formed in 2013, ONCE WERE WILD have released their debut single which emanates such professionalism-this might be a young band but they have old musos souls there somewhere! ‘Reverie’, their single, is well produced, tight and musically sound, being full of indie dream rock but with a very individual approach. I cannot in all honesty say that this is a band undertaking its debut, as they have already arrived and ONCE WERE WILD should easily gain the exposure they need in order to take their place amongst their better established peers.”

The debut EP offers a profound insight into the diverse sound of Once Were Wild and their journey ahead. Filled with layered guitars and uplifting piano, driven by punchy drums and firm bass lines, Dreamfield conveys the anthemic and progressive elements of Once Were Wild. Whilst also further exploring the bands sensitive side. through their ambient and at times, ethereal quality.
